Here are some effective techniques that will help get you going in the music world. Many artist use these and have found them to be very effective for their music projects:
1. This may be a little time consuming, but yet very important: create a blog around your music:
- Search for a good web hosting, then register a domain that has your band or artist name in it . Next set up a Wordpress account blog which is easy to install using the CMS platform that helps to keep you updated and let's you maintain all of your information on your blog. Plus there are lots of good looking themes to choose from and handy plugins to help when your on social networks.
- Write a really good but brief bio of yourself plus samples of your music. Add links to your twitter, facebook and other social profiles as well. Begin to write articles based on music related topics in your genre, such as How To -guides, opinions, reviews.. anything. Be sure to social bookmark every blog post you create. As time progresses you will be getting long phrase keyword search traffic to your site from Google. Once you start getting traffic, visitors will want to look around and will eventually stumble upon your music.
- Do link exchanges with other blog owners. This will help your blog to get more exposure.
- Install plugins on your blogs (feedburner is another option) so that people will be able to subscribe to them. That way, every time you post a new article about your music, people will get notified by email.
- You should also subscribe your blogs RSS feed to multiple RSS directories and blog directories. It's important to promote your blogs everywhere but remember not to spam them.
- Always remember to comment on other artists, producers and music lovers blogs as well. This will help to create a network of people around you. This is one of the most effective ways most artist use to build a fan base.
2. Create a Youtube channel for your band:
- Write a short bio about yourself and add a backlink to your blog. Create videos for all your songs and upload them. Give a description on each video and put a link back to your blog. Make your videos simple by just adding still images with your music playing in the background.
- Now, start getting subscribers and friends to your channel. Again always comment on other artists videos (related to your genre), subscribing to them and sending a friend requests and messages. Posting video responses always helps too.
3. Use forums to promote your music:
- Lot's of artist have posted songs on forums that have created a buzz and record labels picked them up. Most forums have music related sections where you can post your music and add a link back to your site or blog. I would suggest for any artist to try this, especially if you have a hot song. The reason is, if you create a buzz from your song, you will eventually have a label or record company who might be interested in you.
- When your a member of a forum, it's also good to create your own personal signature (slogan) which is a link back to your blogs. That way, everytime you post something in the forums, you gain more visitors and it helps to build a following for your music.
4. Use your social networking sites:
- By now you should already know you need a facebook and a twitter acoount. By using these, all you have to do is start collecting friends and followers, but again remember not to spam. Every so often you might want to post a link about your latest music to both of your facebook and twitter profiles. There are also many other social sites out there, so use them to your advantage.
5. File sharing sites:
- Most artist and record labels have been doing this already. Upload samples or snippets of your music on the most popular torrent sites. Music lovers are always on these type of sites downloading music . Even this helps your music to get more exposure.
6. Free promo music
-Now we all know that nothing is better than free stuff right! Well as much as you might think it's crazy, the best way of all to get your music out there is to give it away. By giving out free mixtapes or demos to people, the fact is, you never know who knows who. It just could be a coincidence that the little teenage girl you gave a copy of your music to could be related to Beyonce or even Drake. And with that said, you already know what the outcome of that could turn into, that's right! you getting noticed or even signed.
I do agree, this is can be a little bit time consuming, but it will be all worth it in the end. But remember, when you apply all these methods: Please do not spam! Most people hate that!.
Good luck and I hope all these methods help you to get more exposure!
